DIY Pop Up Card for Mom

Published: May 8, 2019 · Modified: Jul 10, 2022 by Shelly · This post may contain affiliate links · 1 Comment

Mother's Day is Coming!

Mother’s Day is coming soon! Let’s make a fun DIY Pop Up Card for Mom together with the grands! It’s a flower garden waiting to happen!!

This DIY pop up card for mom is easy to make and takes very few supplies; colored paper, scissors, markers and glue is all you will need.

The video is an easy way to learn to make this craft, but for you "follow the direction" types, here is a written set of instructions!

Making the Body of the Pop Up Card

The main part of this card takes two pieces of paper. I used a bright blue and a bright green for it will be grass/stems and sky. Fold both pieces of paper in half, using a hot dog fold.

How to Create Pop Up Stems

Cut pairs of parallel slits into the folded edge of the green paper. Cut each pair of slits the same length, cut the pairs in various lengths and cut them all less than half way through the paper. These pieces will become the stems of the pop up flowers.

Fold the stems up to make a crease at the end of each stem. Then open the card and pull the stems forward into the open card. When you close the card the stems will now fold up into the card.

Cut one edge of the green paper into a rolling “hill” shape.

Glue the green paper into the center of the blue folded paper. Do not glue the folded stems down to the blue paper. They should be folded forward so they fold up in the card as it is closed.

Leaves and Flowers for Mom's Garden

Cut out some green leaves and glue one or two of them to the front of each stem.

Have fun cutting colorful flowers from other colored paper (we used pink, red and yellow paper). Draw on flower centers and petals. Glue them to the top of each folded stem.

We added a fun sun. You can use your imagination and add birds or butterflies or other special touches cut from paper or drawn on with markers.

A handwritten Message for Mom

We hand lettered our special message on the front and inside of the DIY pop up card for Mom. “Dear Mom”, “I/We love you bunches!” Of course, you can write your own message if you like.

Handmade Envelopes

How to Make your own envelope

Don't forget Nanas' great video on how to make an envelope found by clicking here. You can make your own to perfectly fit your card.

I have all kinds of other ideas for this pop up card idea! It could be used for every occasion!

Who else could use a bit of encouragement? Make a couple extra pop up cards while you are at it. It’s so much fun to deliver a hand-made card to someone you love!!

Supplies:

  • Paper- green, blue, pink, red, yellow
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers or pens

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mom’s and Nanas out there!!
