Conversation heart wreath

Isn’t this DIY Conversation Heart Wreath for Valentines Day cute? It is made with a wreath and wooden hearts painted to look like the candy conversation hearts that are popular at Valentines.

You can make this for your home or to give as a gift. It is a simple project and the following pictures, directions and video make it even easier!

Supplies used to make Conversation Heart Wreath. Acrylic paint, wooden hearts, conversation heart candy, ribbon, wreath, and hot glue gun.

Valentines wreath

It is soon Valentine’s Day. Looking for a fun craft with the kids or a gift for a friend or teacher? This will be perfect!

Heart shaped wreath

I used a heart shaped wreath about 10-11 inches wide and high as the base of this project. If you don’t have a wreath, you could cut a wreath shape from colored posterboard or even plain cardboard (and then paint it a good background color).

This won’t be as 3D, but will still work.

Hand painting wooden heart with pink paint with other painted hearts surrounding it.

How do I make a Valentines wreath?

Paint the wooden hearts

Start with painting the wooden hearts with the various colors of craft paint you have chosen. I chose the pastel colors of the conversation hearts I purchased. The colors were pastel pink, blue, purple, green and yellow.

Paint several hearts each color. I painted 6-7 of each of the five paint colors.

If you don’t have wooden hearts, cut hearts of cardboard in various sizes and paint these instead.

Wrap on the ribbon

While the paint is drying, wrap the wreath with ribbon. Wrap the ribbon all the way around and tie the two ends together with a knot. Tie these ends in a bow.

Hand using white puff paint to write messages on wooden conversation hearts.

Write your messages

I dumped out the box of conversation hearts and read the messages on them.

Using Puffy white paint, I wrote short messages on the wooden hearts.

NOTE: Use all capital letters to write your messages. You may want to practice on a piece of paper and work at printing small so the message fits on the hearts.

Message ideas: UR NICE, BE MINE, I LOVE YOU, SMILE, HI, HOWDY, WINK, BESTIE, XOXO, etc.

Hand lacing purple satin ribbon around heart shaped wreath.

Glue on wooden hearts

Heat up the hot glue in the hot glue gun.

When the paint on the wooden hearts is dry, hot glue a layer of the larger hearts all the way around the wreath.

Then hot glue a second layer of the smaller hearts between and around the larger hearts.

Hand placing green wooden conversation heart that says "ur nice" on semi completed Conversation Heart Wreath.

Add conversation hearts- well it is a Conversation Heart Wreath!!

I wasn’t planning on hot gluing the conversation candy onto the wreath, but it is a nice addition I think.

Randomly hot glue the conversation hearts onto the wreath. Space them out and vary the colors.

Add a short or long piece of ribbon at the top of the heart wreath to be able to hang it.

Hand placing candy conversation heart on wreath to fill in some spaces in between larger wooden conversation hearts.

Valentine’s Day wreath

And there you have it! A nice DIY Conversation Heart Wreath for Valentines Day! I love how it looks hanging against this green wall.

I may or may not have eaten the rest of the conversation heart candy! But I won't tear them off the wreath!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
