Sleeping Under the Christmas Tree

Published: Dec 25, 2019 · Modified: Sep 5, 2020 by Shelly · This post may contain affiliate links · 1 Comment

It's Tradition!!

Sleeping under the Christmas tree is a tradition at our house. It started when our kids cooked up the idea on a Christmas eve many years ago.

They got out their sleeping bags and slept with the light of the Christmas tree as their night light.

Early morning Julatta...

We are of Swedish descent and live in an area where the Swedish Julatta church service is observed at 6:00 on Christmas day! We woke the kids up early to dress and get there on time. Afterwards there was visiting over cups of coffee and hot cocoa with rolls and rusks, of course.

"Can we sleep under the Christmas tree, please?"

Well the grands asked if they could sleep under the Christmas tree this year. How can Nana say no to that???

Make an evening of it!

So, since our time of sleeping under the Christmas tree was earlier in the month of December, we went and looked at Christmas lights and watched a Christmas movie that evening. It was followed with hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies.

Regardless of what night you do this, there are lots of things that you could do together. How about doing a puzzle, playing a game or coloring some pictures? There are a lot of fun cookies to make, like these Christmas wreath cookies or gingerbread cookies. How about making soup and cornbread for supper?

Don't forget about breakfast fun as well. Easy pancakes made in shapes or famous French toast will wake them up! That's an easier wake up than a 6:00 Julatta service, for sure! Ha!
