Simple Homemade Hot Chocolate

Published: Jan 11, 2018 · Modified: Dec 18, 2022 by Shelly · This post may contain affiliate links · 2 Comments

Who's up for hot chocolate?

Winter time fun outside or inside needs to be closely followed by…why hot chocolate of course! Let the grands help you whip up some simple homemade hot chocolate to drink together.

Did I mention simple?

This simple homemade hot chocolate goes together so quickly.

Combine the cocoa, sugar and salt together in a 2-quart saucepan. Add the water to the saucepan to dissolve the dry ingredients.

Place the pan on the stove and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.

Stir in the milk and heat till hot. Don’t let this boil, it’s easy to scorch! Take the pan off the stove and add in the vanilla.

Serve it up!

Pour into mugs and add a bit more milk to cool slightly if needed so that it’s not too hot for the grandkids.

Toss in a few marshmallows, whipped cream or a peppermint stick and then sit around the table for a fun visit or card game.

Did you know you can make marshmallows? We’ll have to try it sometime.
