Make Pizza Quesadillas With Kids Today!
This Easy Pizza Quesadillas recipe is so much fun to make with kids. And the best part? When they're old enough they can make “pizzadillas” themselves as a tasty and fairly healthy after school or lunchtime treat!
This particular quesadilla recipe is a go-to for my granddaughter, she made it as I was visiting one afternoon and we captured the steps along the way. After my 45 years of meal planning, I agreed with her that this is one to share with the world!
If that doesn't sell you enough, it’s also made with ingredients you often have on hand. That’s another “win” in my books! Since we live in the country, I especially appreciate having meal ideas that pull the ingredients right from the pantry when surprise guests pop in.
You'll see in the photos, my granddaughter has a jump on this as she learns to cook!

Fun Recipe Alert: Pizzadillas
I enjoy hanging out with the kids I love and pulling them into a craft or food project. My hope is to foster creativity and build a skill set that will go with them forward in life. It is also to build memories that will last.
All of these things happen with this simple pizza quesadilla recipe. Don’t you love how we can squish those two words together and call it a pizzadilla? They are great to make when you are “hangry” (hungry/angry)! Ha!
This is a great meal for young cooks to make as it’s a quesadilla recipe easy enough for beginners while making something they will love.
You can trade out ingredients inside the quesadilla once you have the method learned. There are plain cheese quesadillas as well as beef or chicken quesadillas for example.
Give this recipe a try and when the child is old enough to be safe and confident in the kitchen they can make them on their own. Have fun!

Best Quesadilla Recipe Supplies
Here are a few quick notes about what you’ll need to make this quesadilla recipe:
- Flour tortillas- Flour tortillas are the “crust” to a pizzadilla.
- Pizza sauce- We use pizza sauce from a jar.
- Cheese for quesadillas - We use shredded mozzarella cheese for a pizzadilla to get the classic pizza taste.
- Toppings- Like a regular pizza you can choose your toppings. We use pepperoni but it also works to use cooked sausage or beef, and veggies.
- Butter or cooking spray- Put some butter or cooking spray in the pan to help get the tortilla golden and crispy.

Equipment for Making Quesadillas
- Frying pan
- Spatula
- Pizza cutter (optional, but helpful!)
Steps to Make Easy Quesadilla Pizzas!
- Lay one tortilla flat and place a couple spoonfuls of pizza sauce in the middle. Spread a thin layer of sauce over the whole surface of the tortilla.
- Add your favorite toppings evenly on the sauce.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the toppings.
- Place a second tortilla on top.
- Turn the burner of the stove on to medium heat. Melt a teaspoon or so of butter in the pan. Place the tortilla in the buttered skillet.
- Flip the quesadilla over with a spatula when it’s golden brown and cook the other side.
- Cut the pizzadilla into pieces (we cut into fourths) and enjoy!

Quesadilla Recipe Tips
These tips can help make making quesadillas even easier!
- This recipe is a great way to use up extra pizza sauce left over from another recipe.
- Don’t overfill the quesadilla or it is hard to flip over. Less is more in this case!
- Turn the burner on to a medium heat so the tortilla browns (and doesn’t burn) as the cheese melts.
- Flour tortillas work best as the “crust” because they crisp up well.
- Let kids make their own quesadilla and sprinkle on the toppings of their choice for a hands-on experience. If old enough, let them do the cooking themselves. If not, let them see how you cook the quesadilla.

Pizza Quesadilla Recipe Variations
Here are a few variations you’re welcome to try with this quesadilla recipe:
- Veggie pizzadilla- Add chopped peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, corn, spinach, etc.
- Chicken pizza quesadilla- Use leftover cooked and shredded chicken as the meat (browned beef or sausage also works).
- Breakfast quesadilla- How about scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon or sausage in a quesadilla for breakfast. Yum!
- Dessert quesadilla- If you want a sweet twist to quesadillas, try Nutella, peanut butter, cream cheese, bananas, strawberries, apples, etc.

FAQ About Homemade Quesadillas
Yes! Younger kids can assemble their own pizza quesadilla, and the older kids can cook their own with supervision.
We like shredded mozzarella cheese and think it is perfect for pizza flavor, but cheddar cheese or a blend cheese works as well.
Quesadillas are best fresh and warm from the skillet. But you can prep ingredients ahead for quick assembly. But if you do make them ahead and reheat them, an air fryer (or some time in the oven on a cookie sheet) will bring some of the quesadilla's crisp back to them.
