Easy DIY Baby Onesie Gift

Easy DIY Baby Onesie Gift

Do you have a new baby coming into your life? Maybe a grand baby, a friend’s baby or your own baby?

Want a special gift that is easy to make with your own personalized touch?

There is no sewing necessary when making this easy DIY baby Onesie Gift. You just iron, draw, cut and iron. That’s it!

Ready to give it a whirl?

Choose Your Onesie!

Choose a fabric scrap from your stash or purchase a fat quarter of fabric in a design that coordinates with the Onesie you have purchased.

You Will Love Wonder Under!

Iron an 8”x 8” square of the Wonder Under paper backed fusible web on the wrong side of your fabric.

Download the pattern for the “Sweet Pea!” design by clicking here: WTN DIY Onesie Gift Pattern.

Tip: You may want to decrease the size of the document so the letters are smaller for a smaller Onesie.

Pin the paper letters section of the pattern onto the RIGHT side of the fabric backed with the Wonder Under. Cut out each letter. You may prefer to cut the paper letters out and trace around them, that works too.

Peel off the paper on the back of each letter. This leaves the fusible web exposed on the back side of the fabric letters.

Ironing Board? What's That?

Place the Onesie out flat on your ironing board. Lay the letters down on the front of the Onesie and shift them around until you are satisfied with their placement. Set the iron down on the fabric for the number of seconds the Wonder Under directions state. Don’t slide the iron around, just set it in place or the letters will shift around.

That’s it! Can you believe it is that easy?

Now I know what you are thinking…you can do all kinds of patterns and sayings on other Onesies or t-shirts or quilt blocks! Exactly! Go for it!

I am a big fan of  Wonder Under!!

If you do sew, you can zig-zag around the edges of the letters if you want.

Won’t that special baby in your life look cute in this project?

Baby Shower Idea

By the way, the DIY Baby Onesie Gift also makes a wonderful idea for an activity at a baby shower. Put up a couple ironing boards, set out Onesies and fabric, and give these instructions to the guests. Let them create their own designs and sayings for the baby.

Have a variety of sizes and colors of Onesies for the guests to choose from. Then there will be fun Onesies to pull out and use for the next couple of years!

Supplies:

  • Onesie- size and color of your choice
  • Fabric scrap or fat quarter of fabric that coordinates with the Onesie color
  • Small piece of Pellon Wonder Under paper backed fusible web
  • Scissors
  • Iron and ironing board
  • "Sweet Pea!" lettering pattern- click here: DIY Baby Onesie Gift Pattern

Enjoy!
