Make an Easy Carrot Easter Basket for Kids out of paper with this simple step-by-step tutorial! It's perfect for holding candy, and can be used as a gift or Easter table favor as well.
The Easiest Easter Basket for Kids!
This Cute Carrot Easter Basket Craft truly is easy for kids to make. If you’re looking for a craft that only takes a few minutes and uses materials that you probably have around your house, this is the one for you.
It’s a carrot shaped basket :-).
We used to make cone shaped baskets like this for Mayday when I was young. Well, make it out of orange paper, and that cone shape becomes a carrot and is the base for your basket.
Paper for the Easter basket
A full length video of making this craft is found at: Carrot Easter Basket Craft Full Length Tutorial. You can make your carrot basket as you follow along step-by-step with me as I make mine!
If you have some construction paper, a stapler, and some glue, you’ve got what you need!
Note: I used orange card stock paper that I had on hand. Cardstock will make a sturdier Easter basket.
An 8 ½ x 11” sheet of paper will make a carrot Easter basket that is 8 ½ inches from the point of the cone to the top edge.
I wanted to make one that was a little bit larger, so I used a glue stick and glued the edges of two pieces of card stock paper together to make a larger sheet of paper. I let it sit until the glue was set.
Cut the semi-circle shape
With this larger piece of paper, we’re going to cut a semi circle shape that is 11 inches up and down and to the side.
Use a ruler to radiate out from the bottom left corner of the paper up to the top left corner of the paper. Then draw small dots as you move the ruler down from the top corner to the bottom edge of the paper.
Note: Remember to keep the other end of the ruler in the bottom left corner of the paper.
These dots provide a guide for you to draw a semi circle from that top corner down to the bottom edge of the paper. So as evenly as possible, draw a semicircle line through those dots from the top left corner of the paper down to the bottom edge of the paper.
Cut along that line. This will be the paper for the cone we are making into a carrot basket.
Roll the paper into a cone
Roll your paper up into a cone and use a glue stick to glue the edges together to keep it in the cone shape.
I also needed to staple this to keep it in place.
To make it look more like it has a carrot surface, I drew small squiggly lines over the cone shape with a brown marker.
Hold the basket vertically and draw the squiggly lines horizontally in various lengths, randomly placed.
The lines makes it look like it came right from the garden! 🙂
This is the time to add a message or the child's name if you want a personal touch. You can write on the basket or glue on a printed message.
Add a handle
Next, we will make a handle for our basket.
Use another piece of construction paper, cardstock, or scrapbook paper to make and cut a handle that’s about 1 inch wide. The handle needs to be at least 11 inches long for this large basket.
Each end of the handle will slip inside of the basket on opposite sides of the cone shaped carrot.
Glue and or staple it in place on the top of the basket.
Fill the carrot Easter basket up!
Take the green tissue paper, folded in half, and then folded in half again. Along the two unfolded edges, snip into the tissue and fringe those two edges. I cut about 3 inches down into the tissue paper.
Open the piece of tissue paper up and find the center. Pull the paper up into your hands so that it makes a cone shape and then tuck it inside of the carrot. Fluff up the fringe on both sides of the handle.
That’s it! Isn’t it cute?

This would be so cute as a child's Easter basket on Easter morning for an Easter egg hunt!!
Easter gifts
But if you would like to give the carrot Easter basket as a gift it's the perfect size for stuffing with candy and goodies and such.
I used a couple handfuls of chocolate candies, and then also added some of the candy filled string eggs that I’ve made. You could also add a small stuffed animal, a gift card, or small baked goods.
Note: You can find how to make the string eggs at this link: How to Make String Easter Eggs for Gifts and Decorations.
It holds quite a bit! This basket works really well hung on a door knob. I was thinking how cute that would be for a neighbor or a teacher!!
Felt carrot Easter basket...
I’ve pondered, trying to make a carrot Easter basket out of felt, I think that would work well, and then could be used repeatedly.
Carrot Easter basket table favor
The same craft can be made in a smaller size to use for a table favor on your Easter table!
Instead of making the original semi-circle as large, with the ruler, measure about 5 ½ inches from the corner of the construction paper.
This rolls up into a cone that is 5 ½ inches from the point to the top of the cone.
I did not add a handle for the favor, but you could if you wanted.
I drew the small lines on the outside of the carrot table favor, and then stapled some green paper that is fringed to the back of the carrot.
This lays very nicely on a plate and can be filled with candy for your Easter table favor!
It is the perfect finishing touch to a place setting and adds a pop of color.
A cute table Easter bunny centerpiece would be a perfect addition. It's sure to bring a smile to the faces of your guests at your Easter celebrations. 🙂
