Butterflies! They just make a person happy. Come on and make a butterfly treat with me using this simple Decorated Butterfly Pretzel Cookie Recipe.

The Decorated Butterfly Pretzel Cookie Recipe is a “pull it out of the hat” activity, it is so easy. But it makes a treat that is yummy and works great for birthday party refreshments or for any special event. The best thing is that the kids can make it themselves and feel so good when they can help.

Almond bark bars, a bowl of pretzels, parchment paper, sprinkles, and ziploc bags sitting on a tray.

Let's Get Started!

There are so many designs that can be made from Mini Pretzel Twists and White Almond Bark but this is probably my favorite. It is a kid favorite, too.

Place some Parchment Paper or waxed paper on a cookie sheet. The finished Decorated Butterfly Pretzel Cookie Recipe will peal right off the waxed paper without breaking. Good luck getting them off the cookie sheet otherwise!

Shaping the Butterfly

Set two mini twisted pretzels back-to-back as shown in the picture. These will be the wings of the butterfly.

Break another mini twisted pretzel, popping off the rounded parts of the twists into two short pieces to use as antenna. Set the antenna above the two pretzel “wings”.

Place a couple squares of the White Almond Bark in a small Ziploc Bag. Leaving the bag open on the top, place it in the microwave for a few seconds at a time (checking each time after a few seconds) until the almond bark is soft.

Seal the bag and gently move the melted almond bark into one corner of the plastic bag. Cut a very small piece off the corner of the bag. This will let a small stream of almond bark out, like for decorating a cookie. Of course if you have a cake or Cupcake Decorating Kit or just some Piping Bags they are easy to use as well.

Secure the Shape with Almond Bark

Press almond bark down the center of the cookie wings, a wider amount to hold the two pretzels together when hardened. Make a circle for the head to hold the antenna onto the body/wings section. Press a small amount of almond bark into the holes of the wings so that they are full but don’t mound out over the edges of the pretzels.

Add the Pretty Colors!

While the almond bark is still soft, spoon or sprinkle decorative Sprinkles onto the wings of the butterfly.

Of course the grands had to taste a bit of almond bark and sprinkles after decorating their fingers!

Allow the Decorated Butterfly Pretzel Cookie Recipe to harden.

Tip: The cookies harden very quickly when placed for a couple minutes into the refrigerator.

Gently peal the cookies off the Parchment Paper and place on a serving plate. I tell ya’, they look so festive on a plate. Add a couple fresh or silk flowers to the plate and they are an eye catcher.

Enjoy for Any Occasion!

These keep nicely in a sealed container so you can make them ahead. It would be a good idea to place a piece of waxed paper over each layer of cookies if you need to stack them up in the container so they don’t stick together.

Now, how about using these Decorated Butterfly Pretzel Cookie Recipe masterpieces for a special butterfly themed birthday party? Great idea for a party theme. Check in next week for a butterfly craft and other ideas to make that happen!!
