What do you write in a coupon book?
Coupon Ideas for kids
If you are making these DIY coupons for a child, perhaps the coupons could be things like:
- going for ice cream
- buying a toy at a certain store
- a day without chores
- fun outings that they might enjoy
- taking them for a walk
- a certain type of candy
- movie night
- playing a game together, etc.
Kids love quality time with you so be sure to keep that in mind- they will love such a personal gift.
Great ideas for adult coupons
A coupon gift book for an adult may include similar items to those on the kids list as well as specific items you know that person enjoys. For example:
- a round of golf
- a concert they want to attend
- dinner out
- a whole day at a spa
- taking a drive
- going for a walk together, etc.
Remember, adults also appreciate quality time with you. But they also appreciate acts of service like doing the dishes, washing the car, a back rub, or doing the laundry.
Don't forget to add in a few of these types of things- there usually is no extra cost for doing kind deeds! 😉
Oh and how about a Kid's own homemade coupon book?
Don't forget that kids will love making their own DIY Christmas coupon book to give to you.
Make a set of the printable blank coupons for a fun way for them to make a unique gift for their friend, parent or other family member. What great gift ideas!
For best results many kids will need some help filling out the blank spaces on the front of the coupon with different options that don't add too much additional cost!! You would hate for them to offer coupon for a trip to Disneyland on which you can't follow through!
When they are finished they can add a cute cover they decorate themselves with colored markers, colored pencils, or crayons.
I may or may not still have a custom coupon book or two that my kids gave us for Christmas. They made their own coupon book without the editable coupons and still came up with such sweet and awesome gifts!
Here's a photo of a couple. You'll probably keep yours the way I did!!
Assembling the Free Printable Coupon Book Template
Front cover and back cover
So let’s start with the front cover and back cover. Card stock works well for making a cover of a booklet. Cut two pieces of colored cardstock or white cardstock that are 3“ x 8“ in size.
Note: You could get creative with this! Perhaps cut the cover from a plastic or cardboard package, or some heavy fabric. Just don't cut up something you shouldn't! Ha!

Options for the assembly
When you have made all the coupons you’d like I have a couple suggestions of ways you can assemble them.
First, you can simply put them together in a booklet just as they are. If this is what you want to do then you can skip to the "putting your coupon booklet together" section below.
OR you can mount them on paper before making the booklet to give an even a more "high quality specialized gift"! In that case you will glue the coupons on top of papers selected for the person and cut to size.
Mounting coupons on decorative paper
So put your thinking cap on to find materials for mounting the coupons. You are looking for paper to glue the coupons onto- paper that makes the coupon book more interesting and personalized.
You could get very creative with this if you’d like, as far as the kinds of papers and things that you put inside. Or just use red and green paper for Christmas if you want.
For example, if you are making this for someone who has a particular interest, the papers that you use could be items that are commonly used in that interest.
For example, a map could be cut up and used for a pilot or a truck driver. Or an old book page could be cut up and use for someone who loves to read, a librarian, or a teacher.
Think outside of the box! How about all those windowed envelopes from bills, an old clothing catalog, pages from last years planner, menus, travel brochures, concert programs, or sporting event flyers?
Are your ideas flowing? PLEASE leave your ideas in the comment sections, I'd love to add more ideas to this list! This is a special version of a recycled notebook or junk journal!!
You will cut all of the pages inside to fit the coupon book cover size so they will all be 3“ x 8“ in size. Cut as many pages is you have coupons. A paper trimmer makes short work of this task.
Do the best you can, the pages don't have to be perfect.
Putting your coupon booklet together
Hole punch and ribbon
Your booklet can be put together in several ways.
You could use a hole punch to create equal distance holes on the left end of the coupon booklet and pages.
Run a ribbon, string, or twine through the two holes and tie it in a bow. Be sure to tie it well so it does not easily come undone.
Hole punch and loose leaf binder ring
Or you could hole punch one hole into the top left corner and put a loose leaf binder ring through that hole. Then the coupons could be viewed flipping them around the ring.
Staple the pages
Most likely your Christmas coupon booklet will be too thick to staple. But if you have a heavy-duty stapler, that would be an option for you to try if you want. Staple the left end of the booklet.
You may think of other ideas that you like to try as well.
Glue the coupons on the pages
Glue one of your coupons on each page of your booklet. Center it so that it looks nice when you flip open the pages.
Note: Be careful not to have glue that comes off of the edge and glues the pages together.
Slip the coupon in an envelope
Would you like to put your coupon book into an envelope?
Decorate a long envelope
First off, it will fit in a traditional #10 long business envelope. So you may have one in your home. You can decorate it and use it if you want.
But if you want something more interesting here are a couple more options.
Note: The booklet made from coupons only will fit in a #6 shorter business envelope- you can decorate it!
Make your own long envelope
Secondly, you can open up a #10 long business envelope and use it as a pattern to make an envelope. Trace the pattern on paper, cut it out, fold it like the original envelope, and glue flaps in place.
Note: You can do the same thing for the booklet in the #6 shorter business envelope.
WTN's 3 Ways to Make Envelopes Post
Thirdly, check out the Welcome to Nana‘s post on how to make your own envelope!
You can make an envelope 3 different ways to fit your coupon book. Make it out of Christmas wrapping paper or other paper that you might have on hand that would coordinate with the coupon book (old map, potato stamped butcher paper, etc.).
The post can be found at this link: Three ways to make an envelope with step-by-step video tutorial.
How about an envelope made from fabric? So cool
