How to Fold an Awesome Origami Shirt Father's Day Card!
Fold this awesome Origami Shirt and let the grands use it for their Father’s Day card.
You Go Girl!
Nana, you can do this! Practice one ahead of time so you feel confident showing the grandkids.
Origami rocks! Just saying. I’ve wanted to do some origami for a while but wanted a fairly simple one to start with. Well this fits the bill. It’s so cool, just like dad!
Choosing the right Paper "Fabric" for an Origami Shirt
Start with an 8 ½ by 11 inch piece of decorative craft/scrapbooking paper. What kind of shirt "fabric" would dad like? Choose a funky pattern! He will love it.
Write A Note
On the blank side of the paper have the grand write their message to dad (don’t forget that Papa would love to have one too).
Fold the Sleeves
Fold the paper in half the long way, hot dog direction, with the note inside the folded paper.
Open the paper up and fold each long edge into the center fold of the paper.
Fold the top of each folded piece out into a long triangle shape. This looks like it will be the collar, but it is actually the sleeves!
Turn the paper over and rotate 180 degrees.
Fold The Collar
Fold the top edge (opposite of the sleeves) down about ½ inch.
Turn the paper over again.
Fold the top two corners in to the center so that the points touch about ½ inch from the top. This will form the collar of the shirt.
Fold the bottom edge up and slip that bottom edge under the collar points. Crease the bottom edge and it will remain folded.
Isn’t that the cutest…ahem…most handsome shirt ever?
These fit in a 5 ½"x7 ¼" envelope. Check out the WTN post on making your own envelopes found here if you want a DIY envelope.
The Perfect Handmade Father's Day Card!
Why not make several for other friends or relatives? Or, if dad is going on a trip, a series could be made, one for each day of the trip. Way to go, you helped pack his suitcase. He could open one shirt per day and know you are thinking of him!
So I'm pumped for more origami. How about you?
