So this Fun April fools Day coloring page will have you laughing and asking, "Which way is up"? I’m here to tell you that fun time spent coloring together is no joke!

There is no prank played on these April fool coloring pages except that the coloring sheet can be turned upside down or right side up!

This is a hand drawn coloring page that I've drawn just for you.

I've been on a roll with 70's inspired crafts lately so notice the whimsical designs on the shirt and the striped pants on the person in the picture. It has some retro vibe to it, don't you think? 

When I colored mine, I left the belt and shoes white of course, as a fun way to honor the 70's!

The perks of coloring

Coloring (and laughter) is a great stress release and a great way to develop fine motor skills for kids. So you will get many benefits from this April fools!

There’s nothing like sitting and visiting with your special people, friends, and family members as you do a craft activity of some sort.

What media can I use to color my coloring page?

The coloring page can be used with colored markers, colored pencils, gel pens, or crayons.

If you do use markers, it might be good to print the April fools' Day Coloring Pages on card stock paper instead of plain copy paper so that the markers don’t soak through the paper.

I love to use my Prismacolor colored pencils. The marks they make are smooth and the colors are vibrant.

Mine Prismacolor set has lasted a long time and you can purchase individual pencils to replace the ones that get used up in the set. Personally I’m pretty hard on the sky blue and grass green colors.

Designing an April fools coloring page

It was hard to decide what to put on the April fools coloring page in my holiday coloring pages series.

I was considering putting a joke or two on there. But I can’t remember a joke for five minutes! I couldn’t think of a single one.

So I just drew this little person able to stand on her feet or do a handstand! That leaves either the cat or dog upside down for a while but that’s OK!

April fools Day- What's the History of this day?

So what's up with April fool’s Day? It's an intriguing little holiday and it has silly traditions of little practical jokes and hoaxes that people play on one another.

Why is this?

This had me doing a bit of research on the history of April fools Day. What in the world started this?

Well, the reality is no one knows for sure!

A possible beginning...

Of course, there are several speculations. But the event that made the most sense to me was when France changed their calendar from the Julian calendar to a Gregorian calendar in 1582.

In the old Julian calendar, the new year was set on April 1 close to the beginning of spring.

The new Gregorian calendar placed the New Year's Day on January 1.

But in those days before Google and the evening news, lots of people did not know about the switch. They continued to start their new year on April 1.

The people that were in the know, made fun of the people that were not in the know and were unaware of this change. Those in the know put a paper fish on the backs of their unsuspecting behind the times friends as a symbol of how gullible they were.

I'm not sure how they got that to work without tape or safety pins. But they figured it out.

This reminds me of the many times I’ve seen notes on peoples' backs on April Fools’ Day that say something like, "Tell me my hair looks great!" Ha!

Famous April fools Jokes

Some of the more famous April fools jokes that I’ve read of come about as people in the media put out stories of events to trick people on April 1. Then they make sure that they put it right on April 2. Here’s a few of the more notable ones: 

• Burger King put out an advertisement saying that there were left-handed whoppers available. They had many customers come in and ask for this new hamburger option on the menu!
• Google told people that they could read their minds so they wouldn’t even need to type in their searches. That’s a good one!
• Taco Bell announced it would be buying the Liberty Bell and renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. They claimed it would help lower the national debt.

• I know someone that set his brother's alarm clock forward. His brother got up two hours early. He got dressed and was out waiting for the school bus in the dark- two hours before it was actually time for it to come
• And of course, you and I have played our little jokes I’m sure. Sending someone on a fool's errand or wearing a sling all day.
