The Grinch Christmas Coloring Pages
This is my favorite coloring sheet out of the 50 or so I’ve drawn so far for Welcome To Nanas (don’t I always say that?). It’s part of a Grinch set of coloring pages that also features Max the dog (my hero) and little Cindy Lou Who (she's a cutie pie).
Print them off for some fun and family togetherness that’s sure to make holiday memories for the kids and you.

Cute Craft Alert: Classic Grinch Coloring Pages
The original Grinch cartoon was a favorite for my brother and I after it first aired on television in 1966. Before the days of streaming we waited with anticipation for December to come and watched it every Christmas. In fact, I give him a Grinch inspired gift each year for his December birthday. Think tie, pajamas, toys, paraphernalia.
This year he’s getting a long Grinch arm that attaches to the trunk of his Christmas tree. It comes out to the edge of the tree and holds a red ornament. So it looks like the Grinch is in the middle of your tree! Ha!
You can enjoy coloring the Grinch with family and friends as you patiently wait for dinner or relax together during the holidays. Print off the free coloring sheet (one for each person including you), grab the colored pencils, markers, or crayons , and put on some Christmas music.
You’ll get the kids busy (and quietly) coloring, it will keep them busy till it’s time to open presents!

Supplies for a Grinch Coloring Page
Here are a few quick notes about the supplies you will need to make this Grinch coloring page!
- Printable Free Grinch Coloring Page- Here is the link for the free printable: Printable Free Grinch Coloring Page (print one per person- including you)
- Cardstock paper- Print the coloring page on white cardstock paper so markers don’t leak through easily. It works best to print only on one side of the paper.
- Colors- The coloring sheet works well for colored pencils, markers, or crayons . Use whatever you have at home, even watercolors if you’re feeling adventurous!
- Cotton balls (optional)- The cotton balls are to glue on for the Santa suit trim.
- Glitter glue (optional)- Glitter glue adds some bling to the picture.
- Pom-poms (optional)- A pom-pom is great for extra decoration.
- Other fun glue ons (optional)- You can glue on other fun extras if you want!
- Glue or glue stick (optional)- You'll need glue or a glue stick for the add ons (optional).
Before we start, let me show you what I’ll be using to color the Grinch coloring pages. I’ve chosen my crayons this time because I wanted dark colors for the Grinch! I will press hard for solid color which makes the colors really pop. You can choose the same or use colored pencils, or markers.

Print out the coloring sheet on some nice, sturdy paper. I find white cardstock paper works well especially if you plan on using markers so they don’t bleed through. Print one for each person, including yourself!! Here is the link for printing: ****Printable Free Grinch Coloring Page (print one per person for personal use).
Here's the link to the Cindy-Lou Free Coloring Page and the Max the Dog Free Coloring Page too. We can't ever have enough of these great hand drawn pages to color.
The Grinch coloring page is perfect for all ages. It has simple lines to make it easy for little hands to color and fun details for older kids and adults to enjoy. I’ll give some tips to add some fun details later!

Steps to Color Your Free Printable Grinch Coloring Sheet
Step 1: The Grinch’s Santa Suit and Hat
Oh, don’t forget to put on some Christmas music to play in the background while you color! That always adds to the fun of coloring, that and asking someone to color with you!!
I started by coloring in the Grinch’s Santa suit. The red crayon I used had more of a pink tone than I expected but once I started I couldn’t really change so I just went for it! I suggest that you try the color on an extra paper to see if it’s what you want- I wish I had!
Color along the edge of the section and then fill in with the color of your choice. This keeps you from coloring outside the lines. You'll get more and more accurate as you practice, coloring helps to develop fine motor skills.
The white furry part can be left as white paper which I did because I’m gluing on cotton balls later for a 3D effect. It could also be colored with just a little bit of gray color in selected spots to give it a 3D effect. Just draw a few soft lines and shadows and it will look more fluffy.
Repeat this for the Grinch’s Santa hat and color it in. I’m using the same red for this as I used on the Santa suit. The hat is a key part of his disguise and fools little Cindy Lou Who in the story.

Step 2: The Grinch’s Face and Hands
Alright, let’s get started on the Grinch’s face. We’re looking for that perfect, Grinchy-green color. Look through your colored pencils, markers, or crayons for a shade of green that’s not quite lime, not quite forest green, but something right in between. We want a green that’s similar to the color of the Grinch in the movies.
Again, start by lightly outlining the face section with this color, then fill it in. Be extra careful around his eyes. Leave them as white as you can to color a different color and make them really pop.
Hey, check out that famous smirk on his face. Our hand-drawn coloring page really captured his mischievous grin, didn't it?
For the background of his eyes, I’m picking a bright yellow. It contrasts so well with the green and gives him that classic, cartoonish look. We’ll color the pupils of his eyes a bit later.
Don’t forget to color in the two hands at the bottom of the page, he has his hands on his hips. It’s a bit hard to know they are hands but notice his long furry fingers. Use the same color green on them.

Step 3: The Final Grinch Touches and Background
We are so close to being done! Our Grinch Christmas coloring page is looking so good.
Find a black color the center pupils of his eyes and his eyebrows. It looks as if he’s just cooked up a wonderfully awful idea. This is the Grinch in his mischief mode! That finishes his face.
But we need the black for one more thing…his too small heart! Color in the tattered little heart on his suit with the black crayon.
The last big step is the background. I left the main part of the background white but you could color yours light blue or another color if you want.
Have fun coloring the strand of lights. I love those big bulbs and made them all different colors.
You’ll see in the video that I had fun with some extra glue ons at the end. I glued cotton balls on for the Santa suit fur and colored the bulbs and eyes with glitter glue to add some bling. Have fun! These ideas and more can be found in the tips section below.

Nana's Expert Tips for Creative Coloring
These tips can help coloring the Grinch even more fun!
Pro Tip 1: Fuzzy Grinch Santa Suit Fur
How about a fun craft technique? Take some cotton balls and pull them apart into smaller pieces. Glue them onto the fur areas of the Santa suit for a 3-D furry effect!
Pro Tip 2: Max's Red Nose
Glue pom-poms onto your coloring picture. For example glue on a small red pom-pom onto Max's nose instead of coloring it. Add other glue on fun items if you want from your craft stash.
Pro Tip 3: Making it Glow
Note: A fun thing to use is glitter glue or metallic markers go make the Christmas lights and ornaments in the picture glow. I also used them on the yellow of the Grinch’s eyes!
Pro Tip 4: Make the coloring sheet a spring board for learning.
Read the book or watch the Grinch movie. Visit about what the Grinch learned and why his heart grew. How can we be generous and kind to others now and all year long?
This is a great opportunity for family connection. It builds great memories together in a meaningful way that lasts after the coloring is finished.

How to Use or Display Grinch Coloring Pages
While coloring, I had some fun ideas for things to do with these pages once they're finished. Let's share the Grinch fun and good memories we're making!
- Use the coloring sheet you've colored to wrap a small gift for a personal touch.
- Cut the picture up and use parts for gift tags.
- Print the coloring page 4 per page (one side of paper). Color them in, punch a hole in the top, thread a ribbon through the hole, and use them as ornaments on the tree. They will last longer if you can laminate them.
- Copy two coloring pages per sheet (one side of paper). Color them in, cut them apart, and glue on the front of a hand made Christmas greeting card.
- Create a Kindness Wall Display. Display the finished coloring sheets on a wall or a bulletin board. Add notes about kindness, sharing, and what the holiday spirit means to you. How are you inspired by how the Grinch's heart grew three sizes? Its a beautiful reminder of generosity and togetherness, which is what this season is all about.

The Grinch Story and Movies
The story of the Grinch is such a classic. It was created by Dr. Seuss. The Grinch lives on Mount Crumpit with his dog, Max. He starts out as a grumpy, green dude (as my granddaughter says) whose heart is said to be "two sizes too small."
As a result, he really doesn’t like the cheerful Christmas celebrations of the Whos down in Whoville.
He masterminds this scheme to “steal” Christmas and keep it from coming. I don’t want to ruin the ending of the story. You’ve just got to read the book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, if you haven't already. Here's a link to the book:
Then go on to see the movie. It’s one of our Christmas traditions to start off the season.
- First there is the original cartoon version from 1966 called: How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
- Then there’s a cartoon movie version of the story called: The Grinch. The grandkids love this one.
- And finally there’s a "real people" movie version of the story called: Dr Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My grandkids found this one a bit “creepy” but many people love it.
There’s a girl in our area that purchased a Grinch costume and posts pictures online of her doing random things while in the Grinch suit. It is so funny to see her operating the tractor on her farm or pushing a grocery cart in the local market as the Grinch! So fun!
