A really cool thing my daughter does with her kids is making a summer to-do list. Together they sit and brainstorm things they would like to do over the summer months.
Something for everyone...
What I appreciate about this is that it allows each person in the family to place their ideas on the list and contribute to the family activities. This gets a variety of things on the list for every age and every set of interests.

Family Times!
Another thing I love about making a summer to-do list is that it sets the stage for family together times, time spent building relationships and memories.
Ideas for you to borrow...
What do you put on the list when making a summer to-do list? Glad you asked!
Activities you know are coming up- like a wedding or a vacation
Little outings- like getting a snow cone, the county fair, picnic in the park, flying a kite
Learning activities- library time, building a model, creating a leaf collection, reading a book out loud together
Recreational ideas- hiking a trail, biking around town, swim in the pool or lake, taking a walk
Visits- with a neighbor, in a nursing home, going to NANA’s!!
In the house things- putting together a puzzle, playing with play dough, baking cookies, tea party, game night
Yard activities- obstacle course, slip and slide, BBQ Papa Burgers, hole in one frisbee golf
Creative projects- hammered flower prints on fabric, making a card, taking a summer art class, a picture contest with sidewalk chalk (lots of craft ideas on www.WelcomeToNanas.com!)
A few special activities- a trip to the zoo, going to the movies, picking strawberries
Chores/projects- paint a room, plant a flower bed
Post on the refrigerator- of course!!
Don’t get so many ideas on the list that it gets overwhelming, but enough so that no one will say, “I’m bored”! Post the list and choose a couple each week to do. Cross them off as you go.
A great side benefit is that making a summer to-do list builds anticipation, there is something to look forward to. On the other side, there is also something to look back and reflect upon which can be a great opportunity to teach gratefulness.
