Decorative Sidewalk Chalk Art Show

Sidewalk Chalk Art Show

Sidewalk chalk is always a hit...always. At least it is at my house. And what's fun is that the adults usually jump in and draw with the kids at some point. Try having a Sidewalk Chalk Art Show to pass an hour or two on an afternoon with the grandkids!

Sidewalk Chalk for Everyone

Open up the chalk into a bucket or box and set it out on the sidewalk where all can reach or get to it. The bigger the box of chalk, the more colors each child (and adult) can have at their disposal while creating their sidewalk chalk art show masterpiece!

Make it formal and draw square or oval "frames" for each person to draw in, or let everyone just sit down and have at it!

"Oooh" and "Aaah"!

One of Nana and Papa's jobs can be to move around and "oooh" and "aaah" a lot as the grands draw. Encouraging young artists helps them to develop their creativity, sparks imagination, lets them express themselves in pictures and words and is just plain fun.

Blend Colors

Use your fingers or a little rag to help smudge the colors together in some cool ways. Chalk can be blended by coloring with one color on top of another and then smudging them together. This is especially fun for those hands on learners.

Tip- Your flip-flops make great padding under your knees on a concrete sidewalk! This is especially helpful for Nana who isn't as flexible as she used to be.

Attend the Sidewalk Chalk Art Show Opening

After the pictures are finished, grab a glass of lemonade and take a tour of your Sidewalk Chalk Art Show together. This is another perfect time for more "ooohs" and "aaahs". It might also take some creative questions asking such as, "tell me about this", when you don't know what they have drawn :-).

This is an opening you will NOT want to miss! Everyone who is someone (to you) is exhibiting!

Enjoy!
