Decorating the May Pole Coloring Page

Not many people have actually gotten to participate in decorating a May Pole. But everyone can enjoy the tradition while coloring this free Decorating the May Pole Coloring Page! You can print one off here.

Scandinavian Traditions

I live in a small community that began as a Scandinavian settlement in the 1800’s. In fact, it is celebrating 150 years this year!! Perhaps you would like to come and celebrate with us?? It certainly is a place that cherishes it's heritage.

We still have festivals where the children dress in Swedish costumes (regardless of their personal heritage), learn dances and dance in the streets. The girls looks forward to getting to decorate the May pole in 8thgrade.

Decorating the May pole dance

It is so beautiful to see them in their colorful folk costumes with flower crowns in their hair, holding the ribbons and weaving in and out as they dance, winding up the pole with the ribbons. It's one of my favorite things to see.

I looked up the history of this tradition and no one really knows for sure why it started. But all agree that it is to celebrate that the spring season of warmth and joy has come again after the cold winter months.

I’m ready to celebrate spring too, aren’t you??

Start by coloring the Decorating the May Pole Coloring Page with your grands (print one off for yourself as well of course). Set out the colored pencils and markers and enjoy a good visit while you color.

Here is the link to the Decorating the May Pole Coloring Page once again. I hope you have fun coloring it.

If you really want to get into the spirit, learn to make the flower crowns here at this post!!

Enjoy!
