Would You Rather Questions

Our seven grandkids love having Would You Rather Questions for Kids cards available at the table. They grab them every time we are together and ask each other questions.

It is a great way for them to get into lots of conversations or fill in some time waiting for a meal to be ready. I love hearing their laughter and bantering over silly answers!

Not only do I use it for family time, but as a teacher I used it several times every year in my classroom. Make one for yourself before your next road trip, family night, or for a bad weather day when kids are stuck inside and bored. You’ll love it too!

Why You’ll Love These Would You Rather Questions for Kids

This is one of my favorite games, a Nana's favorite you could say. It checks all the boxes for me.

This simple game is inexpensive, easy to make (especially with the Would You Rather Questions for Kids Free Printable), and goes with you anywhere.

An extra bonus is that it works for all ages…from young to very…well very mature adults. Ha! In that way it reminds me of the Apples to Apples game.

The Would You Rather Questions also:

  • Provide low pressure conversation starters
  • Get the laughter going…and going…
  • Spur creative thinking (kids love to make up their own questions)
  • Are screen free, don’t take batteries or electricity
  • Are a simple project the kids can help with, and add to.

Fun Game Alert: Would You Rather for Kids

When I was a home economics teacher I was always looking for an ice breaker at the beginning of the year, something to fill a few minutes at the end of class, or a fun holiday game for home room. Would You Rather Questions were often a go to game for these purposes.

There was no mess, no set up, just a lot of fun and laughter.

I made my own cards on 3x5 notecards and kept them rubber banded together in a stack in my desk drawer (next to my chocolate stash).

That set of notecards came home with me when I retired and now entertain our grandchildren and friends when we sit around the table together. Hearing people’s reasons for choosing whether they would have a “talking backpack” or “talking shoes” is a hoot! The reasons are even better than the questions!

Of course Nana has to get into the bantering and laughter too. That has caused more than one burned meal entree! I promise you will not be disappointed in this game.

What Are Would You Rather Questions?

So Would You Rather Questions ask the question “Would you rather…” and then adds two side by side options afterwards. The options are usually two things that are outlandish, neither a reasonable choice. But that’s the whole point!

You really don’t want to choose either option, but you must choose the one that is most favorable to you! There isn’t a right or wrong answer, but there are interesting, yucky, silly, and preposterous answers!!

Usually you feel led to give your reason for your choice and that is often funnier than the Best Would You Rather Question!

Here are a few examples:

  • Would you rather have glow in the dark pajamas or shoes that change color?
  • Would you rather have a robot helper or a talking pet?
  • Would you rather travel by hot air balloon or in a submarine?

Can you see how these questions would be fun ways to break the ice or start conversations?

They will also help kids practice verbal skills, listening skills, decision-making skills, and develop confidence with other people.

Craft Tips- Making the Game Gets Even Easier

These tips can help making the Would You Rather Questions Game even easier!

  • Cardstock- Print the free printable on cardstock paper so they last longer (or write them yourself on cardstock).
  • Lamination- Laminate each page of cards before cutting them apart so they last even longer! Especially if you plan to use them often (like in a classroom or outside).
  • Binder Ring- Use a hole punch to make holes in the top left corner of each card. Place all of the cards on a binder ring to keep them all in one place. This makes them easy to take with you in the car or anywhere in the house.

Craft Variations- On the Game

Here are a few variations you’re welcome to try when making this game:

  • Colored cardstock- Use colored cardstock or a variety of cardstock colors- perhaps one for each type of Would You Rather Questions. Here's a link to the black and white printable for this purpose.
  • Blank cards- Leave some blank cards in the mix of questions for people to write down their own Would You Rather Questions.
  • Jar container- Place the cards in a jar or plastic container and then draw out a card randomly.
  • 3x5 Notecards- If making your own cards, cutting 3x5 notecards in half works well.
