This Sweet Valentine’s Day Wreath was easy, fast and oh so sweet for a Valentine’s Day craft (or for any time)!!
In a state that has crazy weather, the grands ended up at my house on a snow day. Glad I’d tucked this craft away for the youngest to make that afternoon. Being able to tie a knot is all the skill that is needed, plus a little patience
A Heart Wreath Form
I found this heart shaped willow wreath at a garage sale, but I’ve seen several types similar to it in the hobby stores. You can use any type of heart shaped wreath form that you can find, willow, wire, or foam for example. It will be covered when you are done. Of course, the wreath can be round as well if you prefer.
Fabric From "the Stash"
Cut fabric strips that are about 1” wide by 12” long. If your wreath is thicker, cut them a bit longer. I wanted them long enough for little hands to be able to tie them easily. We will trim off the extra later.
I used left over sewing fabric from long ago projects. You do know that “she who dies with the most fabric wins”, don’t you? Ha! For the Sweet Valentine’s Day Wreath we chose fabrics with pinks and blues. You could make it any colors that your grand’s would like for a holiday or to match their rooms.
You can pick up ⅛ yard of 5 or 6 coordinating fabrics at the store or purchase several fat quarters if you don’t have a stash yourself. It doesn’t take much. You could also ask around with your friends. Many people would love to share their stash (it justifies having kept it all these years)!
All Tied Up in Knots!
We turned on the music and the grand started tying the strips, one by one, around the wreath. Use a simple square knot, tie it securely. The knot and the loose ends are positioned to fall to the outside of the wreath. Scoot them next to each other so as to cover the wreath form that is underneath.
After awhile, mom helped a little to make the process go a bit faster for the younger grand. The older kids could do it all themselves. We finished the wreath quickly.
Trim the extra part of the ties to the length you like around the wreath.
Tip: Don’t cut them too short or they will come untied!
Happy Valentine's Day!!
I’m not sure if this Sweet Valentine’s Day Wreath will find it’s way up on the bedroom wall or will be a gift to a friend. This little grand has the gift of giving, so it will probably be given to a friend!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you, my dear WTN friends!! I’m thinking of you!
Supplies:
- Heart shaped wreath form of any type (I used a willow wreath)
- Fabric strips 1”x12” (scraps are best, but 5 fat quarters would work great!)
