Cute Craft Alert: A Christmas Countdown Calendar

As a child I counted down the days until Christmas, didn’t you? When our uncle sent us our first Advent calendar I was smitten! We could open a little door on the calendar each day and see the number of days left until Christmas.

The Kindness Christmas Countdown Calendar (try saying that three times fast!!) builds on this idea...with a twist!

The kids will take a numbered card down each day with the challenge to do the kind deed written on the back of the card. How perfect is this as you look forward to Christmas?

Markers, printable tags, ribbon, scissors and a hole punch.

Supplies for your Christmas Calendar

You don’t need much to bring these cute countdown calendar craft to life!

  • Free Printable Countdown Calendar for Christmas- Use the free printable blank template cards or the free printable hand drawn decorated cards to make your 25 daily countdown cards.
  • Cardstock paper- Use white cardstock or colored cardstock to print out the cards.
  • Black permanent marker- Use a black permanent marker to add the kindness deeds to the cards
  • Markers, crayons, colored pencils- Use markers, crayons, or colored pencils to decorate the cards.
  • Ribbon- Tie up a ribbon to attach the cards to so they are visible for the countdown.
  • Clothes pins- Clip the cards to the ribbon with clothes pins.

Steps to Make this Craft

Ready to make your Calendar for Christmas Day count down? Start by printing off the 25 cards from the Free Printable Countdown Calendar for Christmas. Print one side only on white cardstock paper.

Blank cards:

To have the kids make their own countdown cards, print 7 pages of the blank template (you need 25 cards).

Number the cards from 1 to 25. Decorate and color each card in whatever way you would like.

On the back of each card, write acts of kindness from my list or ones you think of yourself.

Put up the calendar:

In the main room of your house tie up a ribbon where the Countdown Calendar for Christmas will be seen each day.

Use clothes pins to attach the cards to the ribbon in order 25-1

Take down a card each day and challenge the kids (and yourself) to perform the act of kindness for the day. Start with #25 and work down to #1.

Craft Tips for Xmas Countdown Cards

  • Cardstock paper- Use cardstock paper to print off the cards from the free printable. They don’t leak through as easily when using markers.
  • Paper clips- If you don’t have clothes pins you could use paper clips to hang the cards on the ribbon.

Craft Variations

Here are a few variations you’re welcome to try with this calendar for Christmas countdown:

  • Colored cardstock paper- To make this activity even easier, print the cards off on colored cardstock paper and skip the coloring.
  • Hole punch- Use a hole punch to punch a hole at the top of each card. Tie a ribbon through the holes. Hang the cards on the Christmas tree and take one down each day.
