Easy 4th of July White Chocolate Dipped Strawberries
These Easy Fourth of July White Chocolate Dipped Strawberries can be made in minutes and are a firecracker good snack to pop in your mouth! Everyone loves sprinkles! But not everyone always loves my jokes. Ha! 🙂
Chocolate dipped strawberries are fun anytime, but the Fourth of July gives those of us in the U.S. an excuse to use white chocolate and red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Easy treat for kids
The kids will love helping you make this easy recipe. They go together so quickly.
Watch and see how quickly they're eaten when you are done. They really are a refreshing snack on a hot day.

Fresh strawberries are key
Of course, the most important part of this snack are the strawberries. It is especially important to choose nice ripe, firm, and fresh berries at your local grocery store to dip in chocolate for the best results.
Avoid fruit that has brown spots or it will get mushy after being dipped in chocolate.
Wash the fruit in cool water and pat it dry, getting rid of any excess moisture. The chocolate won’t stick well on wet fruit.
The best kind of chocolate
For the white chocolate there are several different options from which to choose.
I’m going to be using almond bark, but you could also use white chocolate chips or the white chocolate candy melts (wafers) as well.
Note: This recipe also works with milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Of course it won't be red white and blue for the Fourth of July if you do though!
I am not a chocolate connoisseur, but there are certain brands that people claim are the top quality white chocolate. I’ve been told that the Ghirardelli brand is an especially good quality white chocolate. But I used what I had on hand.
Choose some fun sprinkles
These cute Fourth of July sprinkles came from Hobby lobby. They have small gold balls in them as well as red, white, and blue sprinkles and white stars. They are very festive.
But it would also be a great option to use a blue sugar for your dip. This could be mixed with some small silver ball sprinkles if you want. I show an option similar to this in the video and pictures.
Put the sprinkles in a small dish for dipping or have a small dish ready to shake the sprinkles over the strawberries.
Get Your Cookie Sheet Ready
Get a cookie sheet ready ahead of time because you will be setting the strawberries out so that they can cool. You do not want them touching so a large baking sheet would work well.
Cover the cookie sheet in parchment paper or wax paper so the fruit is easy to take off and doesn’t stick to the pan.
Set this aside with the sprinkles so everything is close at hand and ready.
Melting the chocolate
The last thing to get ready is the chocolate.
As you put your chocolate into your pan, add some shortening to it.
I added about 1 Tablespoon shortening (Crisco) to 10 to 12 ounces of the white chocolate. This helps make the chocolate nice and smooth as you dip the strawberries into it.
Use an (awesome) double boiler
I melt chocolate in a double boiler. A double boiler is a saucepan that has a second pan that fits down inside of it.
You put some water in the bottom saucepan and set the second pan on top. Then place the chocolate and Crisco in that top pan on low heat to medium heat.
As the water heats up, it will melt the chocolate without it scorching on the bottom. This is my favorite way of melting chocolate.
Easy microwave option
You can also melt your chocolate in the microwave. You must be careful as you do this.
I would recommend putting it in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds. Then continue heating in 20 second intervals, stirring and checking after each interval. You don’t want to go too long, or the chocolate dries out and can even scorch.
Make an assembly line!
Now, you're going to make a little assembly line. The kids love doing this too so get them together to help!
Set the melted chocolate on a pot holder in your assembly line along with the sprinkles and cookie sheet. This makes them easy to get to and there will be much less dripped chocolate if they are close together!
So now it’s time to have some fun!
Gently pick up the strawberries by the green tops and dip each of them about ⅔ of the way into the white chocolate.
Immediately dip the strawberry into your small bowl of sprinkles.
Note: You can also hold the strawberry over a small bowl and shake some sprinkles over the top. This will decrease the amount of sprinkles if that is what you prefer. My sprinkle container did not have a shaker top for this option.
Place the strawberry with chocolate and sprinkles onto the cookie sheet.
Repeat the dipping process
You will repeat this pattern with each strawberry until you’re done. Be sure to leave a little space between each white chocolate dipped strawberry on the cookie sheet.
Tip: What I really like about using the double boiler for melting my chocolate is that the warm water in the bottom pan keeps the chocolate melted and smooth for quite a long time.
The chocolate on my strawberries set up without needing to put them in the refrigerator. But if it’s a really hot day, you may need to slip your pan into the refrigerator to get them to set up.
Note: You can also drizzle a little more melted white chocolate over the strawberries with a fork or a piping bag.
So festive on a plate!
I think that the white chocolate dipped strawberries are so showy! They plate up so nicely and look so festive. What's more, they will be perfect to bring to a special occasion, have for a tea party, or set out for a snack on the 4th of July.
Note: Change the type of sprinkles and you can make this treat fit the need for any occasion. Think:
- Pastel sprinkles for a baby shower
- Match the color of sprinkles to wedding colors for bridal showers
- A favorite color sprinkle for a birthday
- Pink sprinkles or red sprinkles for Valentine's Day
- Red and green sprinkles for Christmas
Keep this idea in the back of your head for a fast, simple recipe, that's a festive dessert tray addition to your table any time of the year.
Serving & storing the chocolate dipped strawberries
If your strawberries will be sitting out for a while on the table at room temperature, you may want to place them in miniature candy papers. (They look like miniature cupcake papers.) But this is optional.
Your white chocolate dipped strawberries should last up to three days in the refrigerator. Store them in a single layer in an airtight container.
Personally, I recommend eating them within two days. But of course they are always the best when you make them and eat them the same day!
