Seeds Sprouting?
Are the seeds you planted last week sprouting? I hope so!
Hey there grands, let’s make 3 Easy DIY Garden Labels to keep track of what kind of flowers we have planted! Funny how Nana can forget so easily what type of seeds went where in just a week of time....
Tip: These DIY Garden Labels can also be used when the seedlings are transplanted into the flower beds in another week or two.
Back in the Olden Days
When I was growing up, my mom (Nana-Great) put the seed packet over a stick at the end of the row of veggies that we planted. This first Garden Label idea does just that with a popsicle stick and the empty flower seed packets.
DIY Garden Labels #1
Use a heavy-duty scissors to clip the end of the popsicle sticks so they have a more pointed end that will slip into the dirt more easily. Place the empty seed packet over the end of the stick and staple it in place so the wind won’t whip it off outside. So easy, but cute.
If you threw away the seed packet you can also write the seed name on the popsicle stick and decorate it with markers. If these go outside use permanent markers if the grands are old enough to handle that. Nanas, you can print the seed name on a piece of paper for the little grands to copy.
Tip: Wooden paint sticks also work well for larger garden needs.
DIY Garden Labels #2
Remember when we painted on rocks? Get those paints and brushes back out and let the grands paint the seed names on rocks that can be set next to the seedlings. These will work well both inside and outside. A fun variation on these DIY Garden Labels is to paint or write with permanent markers on seashells if you have some on hand.
DIY Garden Labels #3
Want something super-fast? Use permanent markers to write on a plastic spoon or slip the seed packet between the tines of a plastic fork. Voila, a garden label!
Nana's Favorite Craft Supply
So, I’ve found another craft supply that’s a Nana’s favorite. These ultra-fine markers are great to have in the craft supplies. They can be used a million ways. I use them all the time, especially a black ultra fine marker. It works for photo labeling, scrapbooking, doodling, etc, etc, etc! I was so excited that they came in all of these colors.
