Sweet! A Valentines Day Candy Bar Card!
Want a sweet way to express your feelings to your grands this Valentines Day? A Valentines Day Candy Bar Card will be just the ticket.
Candy Bars...
This was a really fun project. I was able to get most of the candy bars from one store, but had to pick up a few more by making a couple more stops. It was worth it when we saw the expressions on our grand’s faces! “This is amazing!” was the consensus when the card was unveiled.
This message worked by using the candy bars marked in bold capitals and underlined. You may not be able to find one of these candy bars and may need to adjust the message a bit as a result. I think that you will find most of them fairly easily. You may even come up with other ideas of your own.
Valentines Day Candy Bar Card Message
Here is our Valentines Day Candy Bar Card message (If single, adapt the message and use my/I’m/me/I instead of our/we’re/us/we):
- Don’t SNICKER. You need to TAKE 5and read our message to you.
- This is no TWIX, we’re not telling a WHOPPER!
- There’s ZEROtime to lose. Today you’re going to SKOR.
- It’s your PAY DAYbecause you’re worth 100 GRANDto us!
- We want to take EXTRAtime telling you how MUNCHyou mean to us.
- You are MOUNDSof fun and life with you is full of Almond JOY.
- We love you to Reese’s PIECES. We love you to the MILKY WAYand back.
- Happy Valentine’s Day!! Nana and Papa
I only made one card for all three grands in the family. There is PLENTY (or perhaps I should say GOOD AND PLENTY) candy for them all.
Foam Board
A large Foam Board was the base for the card. I chose a light blue color to add a colorful background that would unify the many different colored candy bar wrappers. The Foam Board strength was important to stand up with the weight of the candy. A regular poster board couldn’t do that.
I laid out the candy bars in order on the foam board with two on each line as the message above shows. The lines don’t have to be exactly straight, but straight enough so that it is easy for the grands to read across the lines without too much trouble.
Valentines Day Candy Bar Card Message...
Using a pencil, I penciled in the message between the candy bars, moving the candy around so that it fit in the right spot in the message. A few of the words in the sentence could be written vertically or in caps for variety and to get the sentences to fit on the line.
It’s fun to tilt the candy bars one way or the other. It just looks more interesting that way!
A black magic marker (Sharpie, Black 4-Count) over the penciled message made it easy to read. I temporarily moved each candy bar out of the way while writing with the marker and then put it back in place.
Taping on the Candy Bars...
After the message was finished I attached the candy bars to the poster board with Packaging Tape. Several loops were needed on the back of each bar, even more on the large packages.
Additional Scotch Tape went above each bar to secure it to the poster so it didn’t pull loose when standing up. I will say that this really anchored the heavy candy well, none of them pulled loose.
The Unveiling!
We brought the Valentines Day Candy Bar Card out covered by a large towel so the grands couldn’t see what it was at first. They took the towel off and there was a collective “wow!” when they saw what it was. It was a bigger deal to them than I’d even thought, which was so fun.
It took them a bit to figure out how to the read the card, inserting the names of the candy bars into the writing. After a bit of discussing and attempts (with a little bit of help on a couple candy bars) they read through the whole message and laughed at how the candy bar names worked into the sentences.
Whopper?
I had to explain that a “whopper” was a synonym for “lie”. They didn’t know that one.
Who else needs a Valentines Day Candy Bar Card?
I’m sure you’ve already thought of this, but this sweet Valentines Day Candy Bar Card works for your hubby, friend or colleague with just a little bit of adjustment. Papa and I have a secret message for each other whenever we give a Symphony bar… “Life with you is a Symphony!” I would need to tuck that in my message if I gave a Valentines Day Candy Bar Card to him ;-).
Have a very Happy Valentine’s Day!
I consider you a sweet friend.
Enjoy!
