Fourth of July Deliciousness

A Red White & Blue Fruit Parfait is the perfect breakfast for the Fourth of July when the grands (or other guests) come to visit. Or if you'd prefer, add some extra whipped cream on top for a fresh, tasty dessert!

It is like a perfect food project for you or with the grands!

Blueberries, strawberries, yogurt, whipped cream, and glass parfait cups.

Don’t believe me? Here’s why:

  • They are Red White and Blue of course!
  • Parfaits can be made in minutes
  • Even the littles can help
  • They taste terrific
  • They can also good for you (taste good AND good for you, win/win)
  • You can make them the day before
  • Different fruits can work (but may not make it RWB)
  • Additional ingredients can be added- like granola
  • Parfaits work in glass cups of any kind or a glass bowl/ trifle bowl
  • Plus, look how pretty they look!!
  • They received BIG compliments when served at my house

I'm a big fan!

Can you tell I’m a big fan of a Red White & Blue Fruit Parfait?

This doesn’t really even need a recipe (although I’ll include it below).

We used blueberries, strawberries, vanilla yogurt and whipped cream for a topping. Other fruits could be used instead or in addition- like blackberries, raspberries or watermelon for example. These fruits would still keep it RWB.

Wash & cut up the Fruit

Washing up the fruit and allowing it to dry is the first step, followed by cutting the fruit up into pieces.

Cutting up strawberries was easy for a grand this age. For younger grands it may be a good idea to have the fruit all cut up already. Or it is a great opportunity to teach some safe knife skills as well. Teach them how to hold a knife, which side has a sharp edge and how to tuck the fingertips that hold the fruit so they are out of the way. Remember to cut the strawberry in half and then put the flat side on the cutting board to slice it into smaller pieces. Works like a charm.

Glasses or glass bowls of choice

Now, what containers will you use? Any clear glasses can work. I loved these Stemmed Glasses but the Juice Glasses were really cute, too, and were the perfect size serving for the grands to eat. I also thought that Pint Sized Canning Jars would be cute (but large portion sizes)

There is also the option of using a larger glass bowl to layer all of the fruit. Then people can serve themselves. A Trifle Bowl with Stand looks so nice for this purpose, but if you don’t have one a Glass Serving Bowl or Glass Mixing Bowl would work well. By the way, if using a bowl you will need to double or triple the amount of ingredients needed to fill it up depending on it's size. Of course then it will serve more as well.

Layering the Red White & Blue Parfait

We chose to put the blueberries on the bottom of the glasses as the first layer. It would be more “showy” to have thicker layers of fruit then shown here, but we were really going to eat these for breakfast the next morning so I didn’t want them too large so that there would be wasted fruit.

A few spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt made the next layer. This could be Greek yogurt or plain yogurt or even whipped cream if you prefer.

This was followed with a layer of sliced strawberries.

Of course a dollop of whipped cream topped it all off nicely.

Be creative! Layer away-

Now you can use your creativity to do the layering however you would like. You can have more layers, add other ingredient layers (such as granola), use whipped cream as a layer, and decorate the top with a whole strawberry if you like. There is no end to the options here.

And of course for those living outside of the United States you can match your flag colors or just have some summer fruit fun!

Refrigerate until served

A small piece of plastic wrap went over the top of the glasses and they went into the refrigerator to stay chilled and ready for breakfast the next day. They looked pretty awesome on the table the next morn I might add.

Granola? Yes, please

I used some of Nana’s Irresistible Granola as an optional topping for people to sprinkle on top when we had breakfast. That was a huge hit.

Good (and good for you) any time of the day

A Red White & Blue Fruit Parfait can be served any time. I was thinking of how refreshing it would be for a coffee/tea time treat or for a dessert.

Great reviews!

The grands and the big kids raved about Red White & Blue Fruit Parfaits. I’m hoping you will too!
