Cute keychain for car keys

The Flag Day Holiday Key Chain Craft helps celebrate the Red White and Blue and is a great gift to make for dad and Papa for Father’s Day!

This is a craft that would be perfect for a group of kids to make (family, school, homeschool, Scouts, 4-H). The key chain craft goes together quickly and uses low-cost materials.

Flag Day craft

The US flag is so beautiful in its red, white, and blue and of course those are the three colors of pony beads you will need to make the flag key ring. They are so pretty in bowls ready to use.

The pattern for the Flag Day Holiday Key Chain Craft is available by clicking the following link: Flag Day Holiday Key Chain Craft Pattern.

This pattern will show you how to place the beads in the pattern needed to look like a flag.

Three dishes of red, white and blue pony beads resting near white chord, a small American flag and a red pair of scissors.

The pattern isn’t difficult, but it is even easier when you can see it in a picture.

Cut a piece of paracord that is about 2 ½ feet long.

Wrap tape around the end of the paracord on each end. This will make it like a shoelace with finished ends that are easy to thread through the holes in the pony beads. This is SO helpful and prevents much frustration, trust me.

How do I make a Personalized Key Chain for Dad?

String the first row of pony beads as shown on the pattern from WTN. Push these beads halfway down the paracord.

String the second row of pony beads on the end of the cord to your left according to the pattern.

Take the end of the paracord to your right and string it back through those beads. Gently pull the cords until the two rows of beads are sitting snuggly alongside one another.

Repeat this for each row of pony beads until all 7 rows are finished.

Add a split metal key ring

Tie a split metal key ring to the end of the left cord to hold it in place.

Then tie the two ends of the paracord together with a square knot (shown on the WTN pattern). Cut the ends of the paracord to be about 1 inch long.

Using a candle lighter, touch the ends of the paracord to the flame until the end melts just a bit. This will keep it from unraveling. Help younger kids with this step. This is a fun step but don't touch the ends of the cord until it is cooled and hard.

Place a drop of glue on the square knot you tied to help prevent it from coming undone.

The Flag Day Holiday Key Chain Craft is done!! Wasn’t that easy? Keep one and make another for a gift for Dad…or make more!

It’s a grand old flag!

Here is the link to the pattern for this craft once again- Flag Day Holiday Key Chain Craft Pattern.

What is the Flag Day meaning?

Flag day is the fourteenth of June in the United States and celebrates the anniversary of the U.S. flag’s official adoption. The Declaration of Independence made a need for an official American flag. The continental Congress adopted the official American flag design on June 14, 1777, during the Revolutionary War- before that every colony had its own flag.

The Congress resolved that the flag would have thirteen alternating red and white stripes and thirteen stars on a field of blue for the thirteen united colonies. The stars were placed in a circle to express the idea that the colonies were all equal.

New stars were added on the blue field each time a new state entered the union. The 13 stripes remained the same though.

People are encouraged to fly the American flag on Flag Day and many towns hold parades in celebration of the flag, known as the Stars and Stripes.
