Make an Oatmeal Container Gift Box
This simple to make Oatmeal Container Gift Box is such a fun activity for kids. You can make them in just a few minutes and they can be used over and over again for gifts and treasures.
Have a hard to wrap gift?
A gift wrapped oatmeal container gift box is perfect for slipping that hard to wrap gift into.
I made a couple for this post and have already used them twice as birthday gift containers. They work as well as gift bags and provide some protection for the gifts inside. What a nice variety they make in the types of wrapped gifts sitting under the Christmas tree as well.
Save-Beg-Steal-or Borrow Containers
Save a few containers over time or hit up your friends and relatives and talk them into dumping the rest of their oatmeal into a plastic bag and handing over their containers. Ha!
Recycling at it's best
The larger sized container is an oatmeal box and the smaller one held corn meal. This is my kind of recycling! Look around and you may have other containers that would work as well.
Choose the wrapping paper
These containers are covered with wrapping paper. I’ve mentioned in other projects that the wrapping paper from Hobby Lobby is heavier in weight and works so well for crafting (I am not an affiliate). Old maps, architectural drawings, or butcher paper can work well too.
Measure and cut the paper
Measure the height of the container and mark it on the paper.
Cut straight across the paper.
If you use a plain paper this would be a good time to decorate it with drawings using markers or crayons.
Attach the paper
Roll the paper around the container and attach with glue or tape.
Use the lid as a pattern and draw around it onto the craft paper. Cut out the shape and keep trimming it down until it fits on the lid inside the plastic rim. Glue this to the top of the lid.
Decorate the Oatmeal Container Gift Box
Decorate the outside of the wrapped container with foam craft letters and shapes, ribbons, Christmas decorations, glitter glue or whatever you want. Items can be glued to the top of the lids as well.
Fill it up!!
Now you are ready to fill it with a gift!
But….they also make great Treasure Containers!!
Oatmeal Container TREASURE Box
Children always like having special places for their “treasures”. As a kid, I always had my eyes peeled for special things on the ground while walking and as a result found all kinds of treasures that just had to come home with me. These items found their way into craft projects- I just loved a pretty rock, bird feather or unusual piece of wood...and still do.
Do your children have treasures that need a place to land after being plucked from their pockets? A couple of these treasure boxes on their shelves may do just the trick.
Tip: They don’t do great holding worms though, just saying.
