Ingredients

  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • ½ cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt

  • 4 cups milk
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla
  • Marshmallows
  • Whipped cream optional
  • Peppermint sticks optional

Instructions

  • Combine the cocoa, sugar and salt together in a 2-quart saucepan.
  • Add the water to the saucepan to dissolve the dry ingredients.
  • Place the pan on the stove and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
  • Stir in the milk and heat till hot, continue to stir constantly. Don’t let this boil, it’s easy to scorch!
  • Take the pan off the stove and add in the vanilla.
  • Pour into mugs and add a bit more milk to cool slightly if needed so that it’s not too hot.
  • Toss in a few marshmallows, whipped cream or a peppermint stick
