Equipment

  • Small holiday cookie cutters 2′ or less in size (to fit on the potato)
  • Knife
  • Paper plate(s) to use for paints
  • Newspaper and aprons (if desired)
  • Wet wipes or paper towels to clean stamps

Ingredients

  • 3-5 Potato 2 ½-3″ in diameter
  • 1-2 Craft paints In holiday or preferred colors
  • 5 Cloth or paper gift bags White or brown work well, or plain gift paper on the roll

Instructions

  • Lay newspaper down to protect your work surface.
  • Cut the potato in half, then press the cookie cutter into the freshly cut edge of the potato about ½ of an inch.
  • Using a knife (you may need to do this part for a younger grand), cut away the potato that is around the cookie cutter.
  • Remove the cookie cutter, leaving the design on the edge of the tater, ready to dip into paint! Make several potato stamp designs.
  • Squirt a bit of the craft paint in your chosen colors onto a paper plate and choose the bag or paper you want to stamp.
  • Dip the potato into the paint and then press straight down on the bag for a nice clear print.
  • Stamp Away! Mix and match your designs and colors of prints.
  • Use baby wet wipes or wet paper towels on a separate plate to clean off your stamps when changing colors.

Notes

Tip: Potato stamping also works great on plain paper that you can then use for gift wrapping that special gift. You might try  some white or brown butcher paper bought on a roll.
Tip: have a few baby wet wipes or wet paper towels on a separate plate to clean off your stamps when changing colors.
