- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- ½ cup water
- Optional variations: 1 teaspoon vanilla and a pinch of salt 1 teaspoon maple extract
Mix the first three ingredients together in a small saucepan.
Bring the mixture to a low simmer, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar and keep it from burning.
Let simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly, then remove the pan from the heat.
If you want to try one of the variations, stir them in now!
Let the syrup cool, then use it generously to decorate a giant stack of pancakes or french toast!
Keep the leftovers in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
